Pas de deux for flute and trombone

The name “Pas de deux” implies a close relationship between two people or things, and in ballet it is a duet consisting of several sections. The four highly-stylized, dance-like movements of this suite are duets that require just such coordination between the two performers.

Pas de deux was written in 2010 for Lisa Hanson Bartholow and Maureen Horgan. Ms. Bartholow is flute instructor at Georgia College and State University, Clayton State University, and Toccoa Falls College. She has played flute, piccolo, and baroque flute with classical and popular ensembles in St. Louis, Chicago, Atlanta, and other cities. Dr. Horgan is Associate Proefssor of Music at Georgia College & State University, and she performs with the New Hampshire Music Festival and Monarch Brass. An active proponent of new music, she has performed new solo works for trombone at the International Trombone Workshop, the Eastern Trombone Workshop, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and at Universities throughout the United States.
