Andersen, Joachim – Concertstuck Nr. 1, Op. 3 (for flute and piano)
The virtuosic Concertstück, Op. 3, is a masterfully written, large-sale work that Paul Taffanel selected as the required piece for the Paris Conservatory’s Concours of 1895. Taffanel had performed the work shortly after it was composed in the early 1880s and remained its enthusiastic admirer. He loved Andersen’s music, adopted his etudes into the Conservatory’s curriculum, and selected his works for two concours in the 1890s. In an age when many flutist-composers were writing only light-hearted theme-and-variation pieces and opera medleys, Andersen, in his Concertstück, demonstrates his ability to create a substantial sonata-form composition that is harmonically, contrapuntally, and formally refined.$36.00
Bach, C.P.E. – Flute Concerto in D Minor, WQ. 22
Of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s flute concertos, the one in D minor is by far the best known, even though its authenticity has been repeatedly doubted. A version of the same concerto for harpsichord and orchestra is “genuine C.P.E.” and this has always been regarded as the original version. An in-depth study of all source findings does, however, suggest that Bach composed the flute version first. Editor András Adorján is thus able to present a musical text in which many transmission errors have been eliminated.$24.95
Bach, Johann Sebastian – Flute Sonatas, Vol. 1
Contents include: Sonata for Flute and Continuo in E minor, BWV 1034 • Sonata for Flute and Continuo in E Major, BWV 1035 • Sonata for Flute and obbligato Piano (Cembalo) in B minor, BWV 1030 • Sonata for Flute and obbligato Piano (Cembalo) in A Major, BWV 1032.
The four Bach flute sonatas presented in this volume offer a genuine variety both in style and transmission. The first two are thoroughbass sonatas conceived for flute, string bass and harpsichord. Their time of origin is uncertain and might even date back to Bach’s Köthen period. In the transmitted version with obbligato harpsichord, the sonatas in b minor and A major BWV 1030 and 1032 are most probably arrangements of earlier, no longer surviving works.
The compositional interweaving of the sonatas for flute and harpsichord reaches its apogee in the contemplative B minor sonata, which is a masterpiece of the flute repertoire. By contrast, the A major sonata is captivating for its brilliant joyfulness and radiant color.$33.95

The flute sonata in G minor BWV 1020, one of the gems of 18th century flute literature, has been passed down to us over the years as a work of Johann Sebastian Bach but its authenticity is disputed.
Recent research suggests that the composition most probably came from the pen of Bach’s oldest son Carl Philipp Emanuel.
This new edition is an extract from the Barenreiter edition BA 5220, which also includes the two flute sonatas BWV 1033 in C major and BWV 1031 in E-flat major which are of similarly doubtful authenticity.
The sonata in G minor has been edited by the renowned Bach scholar Alfred Durr using the editorial guidelines of the New Bach Edition as a basis and it appears now for the first time as a separate performing edition.
It replaces the older Barenreiter edition NMA 77 which is now no longer available.$39.95
Boehm, Theobald – Fantasy Op. 21
Theobald Böhm (1794-1881) not only contributed to the evolution of flutemaking by constructing his Böhm flute, but also added to flute literature by composing numerous etudes, concertos and recital pieces. One of the favorite kinds of virtuoso instrumental concert pieces in the 19th century was the fantasy or set of variations on well-known opera melodies or folksongs. Oddly enough, the first edition on which this new edition is based has the title Fantaisie sur un Air de Beethoven. This was obviously a lapse in the composer’s memory, since the melody is clearly the Trauerwalzer Op. 9 by Franz Schubert, which also inspired Franz Liszt – among others – to write a grandiose set of variations.$22.95
